Road Trip to Look at Multi-families in Aberdeen

Jacquie Cliff on the way to look at rental property in Aberdeen Washington In my search for good deals I found a 23 unit rental property in Aberdeen and one of my investment real estate buyers was interested enough to warrant me taking a road trip to check it out.   Not to miss out on a good road trip, I drug my husband along to check out the condition of the property.  He is a painting and remodeling contractor, and owner of DDIY Home Renewal so he gets roped into looking at properties with me quite often.  Since that left no one at home to watch the monkey, we took our daughter Morgan along for the ride.  I am very thankful for those portable DVD players!

My Sisters Bakery in Aberdeen The drive was great and we made good time from Lynnwood down I-5 and arrived in Aberdeen with time to kill.  Luckily we found a cute little pastry shop called My Sisters Bakery just down the street from the property we were looking at.  As I understand it, they had just opened that morning and is run by two sisters.   Eclaire from My Sisters Bakery in Aberdeen Washington Everything looked delicious so we bought a couple of Eclairs to munch on while we waited until our appointment to see the rental property.

The time finally came to take a look at the rental property we had come to see and it was every bit as impressive as we had expected!  A turn of the century apartment building, it was in a little bit of rough shape in the looks department, needs extensive painting and a little maintenance, but looked to be structurally sound.  classic aparment building in Aberdeen Washington It is slightly sad to see a building put together with thick pieces of wood, Fir flooring everywhere, and just great craftsmanship throughout because buildings these days, new buildings, don’t come close to that level of quality.

While the property is old, the foundation and structure seems to be good and I will be giving my investors the scoop on it later today.  Even if it needs a bunch of cosmetic work, it still looks to be a buy and is making money!

MazatlanAfter this, we drove by a couple more apartment buildings that we couldn’t get into, and they all are making money, but don’t have the charm of the first one.   Lunch time had crept up on us and Morgan had eaten most of our provisions for the road, so we dropped into the Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant and grabbed some food.  Good place and it filled our bellies for the ride home.

Tired from a long day of property shopping and driving
"Now we are fed and ready to get back on the road.  Who gets to nap first?"

For a change we headed back out of Aberdeen and home to Lynnwood along Hwy 101 along Hood Canal.  Of course we had to take the cutoff on Hwy 108 through McCleary only to find out that it was closed at the very end, just before you get to Hwy 101.  Luckily Chris is pretty good and guessing what road to take and we took a side road over to 101.  Would have been nice if they had marked that it went through.

October 25, 2008 064 The countryside along the road was beautiful, with all the trees changing colors and leaves falling everywhere.  Soon we found ourselves back up in familiar territory and boarding the Walla Walla in Kingston to take us back across the bay.  Soon we were home and ready to get out of the car.  It really was a great road trip and great way to spend a Fall Saturday.
